Levon Galstyan, the head of the Center’s Maxillofacial and Plastic Surgery department clarified that the deviated septum is quite a common issue in Armenia, and the majority of surgeries is of this pathology in nature. Many decide to undergo rhinoplasty at the same time in order to correct their “Armenian nose”, for this reason the medical center has decided to hold such a campaign. In general, according to the plastic surgeon, reduction rhinoplasty, reducing the size of the nose is rated number one in Armenia. Patients are mostly young girls, but sometimes adult women and men apply as well. In particular, a 55-year-old woman has applied for this program as she had been dreaming of changing her nose shape all of her life, but she could not fulfill her dream. Talking about autumn as flu and ARVI season, maybe not the best time for rhinoplasty, Levon Galstyan mentioned that all four seasons of the year have their limitations in terms of performing rhinoplasty surgery. In particular, during the winter season narrowing of the vessels occurs, during the summer heat and sun rays become an obstacle, during spring and autumn aggravation of infections occur.
That is why he advises those who are eager to change the shape of their nose, to do it during a time that is most convenient for them, taking into consideration the specifics of each season. As for the rehabilitation period after the rhinoplasty, according to the physician, it is very individual, but there are some averaged figures. Thus, the entire postoperative period lasts for up to 14 months, the under eye bruises remain within 4-7 days, the swelling disappears within two months. Patients can easily communicate two weeks following the surgery once the bandages are removed. Silicone pads are used instead of tampons at Slavmed MC, instead of the tampon, which allows breathing through the nose. When asked whether there are cases when a plastic surgeon refuses to perform surgery, Levon Galstyan replied that such cases do happen, but very rarely. According to him, plastic surgery is not related to life or health threatening conditions and if a person makes such a decision, that step is very important for him psychologically and for self-confidence.
